A Child's First Step

A Child starts to learn how to walk at the age of one, more or less. Taking the first step, the child would normally feel proud and more confident since it maks the intiate state of being independent. The child’s first year puts the parent to test as the parents, too, need to adjust themselves and their environment to catch up with the child’s fast development, physically and emotionally.

Responding properly to your child’s development will allow your child to form a sense of emotional security and confidence as well as a familiar bonding in later years. The parents should make sure that their home is safe enough for the chil to explore. However, if a child is not encouraged to explore his surrounding, chances are the child mightgrow up to be an awkward and self-depreciating adult.

When playing with your child, remember to share the good feeling, fun and laughter with him, Focus on the activity that would let him develop his leadership. Praise and appreciation are crucial at this stage; it will reassure him of his surrounding as he is still new to the world. Be specific when you praise him i.e. "It’s very good that you put your toys in place".

Discipline is also important. The child may be too confident if you let him do things his way all the time. Impose some rules like scheduling eating time or play time to let him learn about following the rules.

Last but not least, also make sure you incorporate all-rounded skills in your child’s play: the toys that encourage his muscle development, his language skill, his imagination, his artistic side, etc.
